2004 Vladimir Kramnik v. Peter Leko Mania Magazin Calendar Card
This Calendar card featuring Vladimir Kramnik and Peter Leko commemorates the 2004 Classical World Chess Championship played in Brissago, Switzerland. Both Leko and Judit Polgar are Hungarian, which explains their appearances on these Hungary produced cards (Leko in 2004 and Polgar in 2005). The cards were produced by Mania Magazin in conjunction with and as advertising for Matav Telecom phone cards. Matav Telecom became Magyar Telecom in 2005. The advertised telephone cards of both Kramnik/Leko and Polgar with identical fronts to the calendar cards are pictured above. The calendar card front is identical to the phone card front while the calendar card back is a calendar. The phone card back features Peter Leko. However, unlike the phone cards, the calendar cards do not have an actual chip, only the image of one on them. The print run of the calendar card (200 db) can be found on the rear of the card while the 400 print run (400db) figure is a direct copy of the telephone card front. The calendar backs were produced for the calendar cards only. An edition of Mania Magazin advertising phone cards is shown above as well as a Mania Magazin collector catalogue for phone cards from 2000.
